With flag football being added to the next Olympic Games, the Bengals' superstar quarterback has his interest piqued.

Cincinnati Bengals superstar quarterback Joe Burrow continued his case in 2025 as one of the NFL’s best at the position. While he only played 8 games due to a turf toe injury, he showed that the Bengals offense has the potential to be the best unit in the league with him at the helm.

Star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins add to his case as potentially the best targets for a quarterback to pass to. Adding rising star running back Chase Brown to the mix, there is no reason that the Bengals can’t have the No. 1 offense in the NFL in 2026.

Looking ahead to 2028, flag football has gained national media attention due to it being added to the Olympics in Los Angeles. Since it is the first year that the sport is included, NFL superstars have been quick to publicly declare their intentions to play and represent the United States.

Burrow was the latest to share his thoughts on participating while playing in the Fanatics Flag Football Event this weekend.

“Being an ambassador for the game [of football] and for the [NFL],” said Burrow. “That’s something that I take very seriously and I think the league tries to go out of their way to help in that context. I’ve always wanted to play in the Olympics. I’ve never necessarily played an Olympic sport before, and so when [flag football being added to the Olympics] got announced, I was pretty excited about it. The opportunity to win a gold medal … I’ve thought about a moment like that for a long time, since I was a kid. I think it would be something very special.”

Many fans are split on the interests of one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. He has yet to win a Super Bowl with the Bengals, and his team has failed to make the playoffs for three consecutive seasons. It’s widely known that the defense in Cincinnati has the largest impact on the Bengals' consistent failure, but Burrow’s durability hasn’t helped their case either.

While he had an MVP-caliber season in 2024, playing all 17 games and throwing for a league-leading 4,918 yards to match 43 touchdowns, he played in just 10 games the season prior and 8 games last year. Cincinnati needs its $275 millon quarterback to have success, and his aspirations lying outside of the NFL have raised concerns.

This event was meant to display the level of Team USA’s flag football team that already exists, to see how they would match up against current and former NFL superstars. They delivered in dominant fashion, as in three games, they defeated both the Founders and Wildcats (teams composed of NFL players) in all three games, with a combined score of 106-44.

The Bengals quarterback didn’t entirely show his best level of football in the two different games. He threw for just one touchdown to match a pick-six and under 100 yards against Team USA’s aggressive defense. Now that the event is over, fans can get their emotions in check and worry about the 2026 NFL season, where Burrow will look to make another MVP case while leading the Bengals back to the playoffs.
