Ahead of Sunday's AFC North battle, Marlon Humphrey voiced his respect for Ja'Marr Chase after facing him numerous times over the years.

The rivalry between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens always delivers compelling matchups, with two AFC North foes bringing plenty of familiarity and physicality whenever they take the field. From the battles in the trenches to the playmakers on the outside, there will be no shortage of storylines to follow when Cincinnati and Baltimore meet.

One of the most intriguing matchups will be between Ja’Marr Chase and Marlon Humphrey, two players who have become very familiar with one another over the years.

As division rivals, Chase and Humphrey have squared off numerous times, giving the veteran cornerback a firsthand look at what makes Chase one of the NFL’s most dangerous wide receivers. That experience has also earned Chase plenty of respect from Humphrey, who understands just how difficult the Bengals star can be to contain.

Humphrey has expressed that it would be nice not to have to match up against Chase as often, a sentiment that speaks to the challenge the wide receiver presents every time he lines up across from Baltimore's secondary.

Chase’s production against Baltimore backs up that respect. In 10 regular-season games against the Ravens, he has recorded 75 receptions for 1,204 yards and eight touchdowns. He has averaged 120.4 receiving yards per game, making Baltimore one of the teams he has consistently found success against.

Chase has been especially productive in recent meetings. In 2024, he recorded 21 catches for 457 yards and five touchdowns across two games against Baltimore, including a season-high 264 receiving yards in November. He added another 242 yards across two matchups in 2025.

The numbers are even more notable considering the player tasked with slowing him down. Humphrey has established himself as one of the NFL’s premier cornerbacks throughout his career, earning four Pro Bowl selections and first-team All-Pro honors in 2019. He also recorded six interceptions in 2024, demonstrating his ability to make game-changing plays against opposing offenses.

Despite Humphrey’s individual success, Chase has consistently given him and the Ravens plenty to worry about. Their history makes Sunday’s matchup one of the most compelling individual battles to watch as Cincinnati looks to make a statement against its division rival.

AFC North games are often defined by physical play, competitive intensity and plenty of bad blood between familiar opponents. However, Humphrey’s respect for Chase shows that the rivalry goes beyond the competition on the field.

When a cornerback with Humphrey’s résumé acknowledges the difficulty of defending a receiver, it speaks volumes about the talent on the other side. Chase has earned that recognition through his production, and he will have another opportunity to prove why when the Bengals and Ravens meet again.
