Joe Burrow remains the foundation of the Cincinnati Bengals, having led the franchise back to relevance with a Super Bowl appearance and multiple playoff runs since being drafted first overall in 2020. His presence has redefined expectations in Cincinnati, making any discussion of a potential departure significant, particularly when it involves an AFC North rival like the Pittsburgh Steelers.
However,Steelers legend James Harrison recently floated the idea of Burrow playing in Pittsburgh, which has sparked reactions from fans. Speaking on the “Deebo & Joe podcast,” Harrison revealed that he has been actively communicating with Burrow and attempting to recruit him to Pittsburgh.
“I’ve been doing a lot of talking to Joe Burrow,” Harrison said. “I’ve been conversating with him on a weekly, bi-weekly basis. I talked to him on the phone yesterday.”
The two-time Super Bowl champion added: “We’ve been talking about him… going up there and talking to Mr. Brown… to maybe get into black and gold.”
Harrison also pushed the idea further during the conversation, suggesting Burrow could improve his championship chances in Pittsburgh, while former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger described the scenario as a “pipe dream.”
Burrow’s current situation makes any such move highly unlikely. He signed a five-year, $275 million extension in 2023, tying him to Cincinnati through the 2029 season.
On the field, Burrow has delivered elite production when available. Throughout his six-year NFL career, he has recorded 20,810 passing yards, 157 touchdowns and 51 interceptions, with a 68.5% completion rate. He has also earned three Pro Bowl selections (2022, 2024, 2025) and won Comeback Player of the Year twice (2021, 2024).
Despite Cincinnati missing the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, Burrow, who turns 30 in December, has maintained confidence in the front office. In December, he noted that he “can’t see” himself playing elsewhere, and has consistently reinforced his loyalty to the Bengals amid speculation about his future.
The team’s recent struggles have been tied primarily to defensive and pass rush issues rather than Joe Burrow’s input. Cincinnati are addressing those concerns aggressively this offseason, and have reaffirmed their commitment to maximizing Burrow’s championship window.
Despite Harrison’s comments, there has been no indication from the Bengals that they would consider moving Burrow anytime soon, especially within the division.
Burrow remains under long-term contract, is central to the team’s plans, and continues to operate as the franchise’s defining player.
