Zac Taylor shared his excitement about the Bengals’ 53-man roster, highlighting the team’s depth and two young players who could make an impact in 2026.
With roster cuts made and the practice squad filling out, the Cincinnati Bengals’ focus shifts to Week 1 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, there’s an excitement to see exactly what this roster can do this year.
Head coach Zac Taylor spoke about the process of cutting players last weekend before the deadline, but it wasn’t the answer most would expect. Roster cuts can be one of the most stressful times of the entire year for coaches, especially when so many players made an impact during training camp and the preseason. But Taylor said he actually enjoyed the process of forming this year’s 53-man roster.
The main reason he thought this year’s process was enjoyable was because of the depth of the team, all the way down to the players on the practice squad. He feels really good about the group of guys he gets to coach this season and is excited to see where they go.
On the other hand, Taylor said it was tough to have to inform guys they didn’t make the team, especially because he believed some of the players would have been on the 53-man roster in other years. That just speaks to how talented he sees this roster.
Taylor also made sure to mention two players he is most excited about, and they are two guys who have been talked about a lot over the last couple of weeks.
Dohnte Meyers, the CFL standout, made his first NFL roster on Sunday, and he made sure to reflect on his journey after hearing the news. Taylor said he completely earned his way onto the team after continuing to make plays over and over again by making the most out of every opportunity thrown his way.
While getting reps at receiver behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins will be hard to do, Taylor wants to utilize him in any way possible, whether that is in the return game or even at receiver in specific formations or play calls.
The other player Taylor made sure to single out was Landon Robinson, who will add depth to a defensive line room that Taylor described as one of the deepest on the team. He said the first thing he looks at when preparing each week is who they’re facing on the defensive front, and that this group has the ability to become one of the most challenging to go against in the entire NFL.
With all the investments made at defensive line, he is really excited to see the group go out and perform.
That was the main takeaway from Zac Taylor’s press conference on Tuesday. His excitement level is high, and the depth could be a strong suit of this Bengals team in 2026.
