DJ Turner is playing at an All-Pro level for the Bengals, showcasing his elite coverage ability and limiting opposing receivers. With his contract year underway, Turner is strengthening his case for a significant payday.

The Cincinnati Bengals have searched for consistency on the defensive side of the ball throughout the 2026 season, but cornerback DJ Turner has continued to establish himself as one of the team's most important players in the secondary.

Turner has emerged as a reliable presence in coverage, using his speed and instincts to limit opposing receivers. His performance against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday was another example of the level he can play at.

Turner played 35 coverage snaps against Miami and was targeted twice, allowing zero receptions while recording one pass breakup. His ability to limit opportunities for opposing quarterbacks has become a defining part of his game as he continues to develop into one of the NFL's better young cornerbacks.

The performance also builds on what Turner accomplished in 2025. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Turner recorded a 78.1 coverage grade last season, ranking among the league's top cornerbacks. He allowed just 31 receptions on 66 targets across 580 coverage snaps, a completion percentage of 47%, which ranked ninth among qualifying cornerbacks.

Turner also recorded 18 passes defensed, tied for the third-most in the NFL and the most by a Bengals player since 2009. He added two interceptions, establishing himself as a playmaker in a secondary that needed a consistent presence.

His production has carried into 2026. Entering the Week 5 matchup against Miami, Turner had allowed a 48.6% completion rate when targeted dating back to the start of the 2025 season. That mark ranked fourth among cornerbacks with at least 300 snaps over that span, according to PFF data reported by Bengals Wire.

Turner's impact is especially important for a Cincinnati defense that has struggled to consistently get stops. His coverage ability gives the Bengals a cornerback capable of matching up with opposing receivers and making quarterbacks think twice before throwing his way.

While the Bengals have benefited from takeaways elsewhere in the secondary, including Jordan Battle's two interceptions against Miami, Turner's contributions go beyond the box score. Limiting completions and forcing quarterbacks to look elsewhere can be just as valuable as recording an interception.

Turner is playing some of the best football of his career at a pivotal time. With his rookie contract approaching its end, the 2026 season represents an opportunity to strengthen his value before entering free agency. If he continues to perform at this level, the Bengals will have a major decision to make about his future.

Turner has already shown he can compete with the league's best. Now, he has an opportunity to turn that production into All-Pro recognition while making a strong case for a significant payday.
