Aiming to erase a tough loss to Pittsburgh, Cincinnati’s star quarterback faces a vulnerable Jacksonville secondary he previously shredded for back-to-back 300-yard performances at Paycor Stadium.
The Cincinnati Bengals face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at Paycor Stadium, looking to bounce back after their first loss of the season to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Joe Burrow and the offense bounced back, posting a solid outing and racking up yards, but the defense disappointed, allowing Aaron Rodgers to throw for 292 yards and score 30 points en route to a win.
However, Joe Burrow could line up for a huge day against the Jaguars, as he has proven successful against Jacksonville in his three career starts, especially the two in which he played the full game.
Everyone remembers the last time the Jaguars visited Cincinnati. Burrow left the game after throwing for just 76 yards with a turf toe injury that kept him out for most of the season. Joe Flacco took over and won just one of his six starts in a Bengals uniform, and Cincinnati missed the playoffs for the third straight year.
Before that, Burrow played the Jaguars in 2020 and 2021, and threw for 300 or more yards in each game.
In 2020, Burrow threw for 300 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing an interception. He completed 69.4% of his passes posting a 92.4 passer rating.
In 2021, Burrow had an even better day and, in all honesty, one of the better starts of his career. Burrow threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns, completed 78.1% of his passes, and posted a 132.8 passer rating. The Bengals won all three games in which Burrow started, including the 2025 game he did not finish.
The Bengals starter will have a chance to duplicate those two great performances, as the Jaguars rank 24th in passing yards allowed per game at 235.7. Quarterbacks are also completing 66.7% of their passes and gaining 8.8 yards per pass, which ranks 29th in the NFL.
Burrow has been consistent, saying the Bengals offense needs to be more explosive. He says they’ve been efficient and incredibly average, but the amount of talent and continuity on the offensive side of the ball leaves much to be desired compared to what has been seen through three games. Don’t be surprised if Burrow surpasses 300 yards, as he has done twice in his career already against the Jaguars.
Cincinnati can get back on track with a win and a great offensive showing against a good Jacksonville team that walloped the New England Patriots at home last weekend.
