The Buffalo Bills are still in contention for the AFC East and even the AFC's number one seed. To get there, however, they need to win their remaining two games, starting with Sunday afternoon's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles already have the NFC East clinched for the second straight year, but have a chance to move up to the NFC's second seed if they win out and the Chicago Bears lose out.
It's a late-season interconference contest between two Super Bowl contenders, but how do they actually stack up? This is Bills vs. Eagles, by the numbers.
Offense:
Buffalo is third in the NFL in yards per game with 373.1 while the Eagles are 22nd at 319.6. Breaking it down, the Bills lead the league in rushing at 158.9 yards per game and are 18th in passing yards per game (214.2). The Eagles, on the other hand, are 15th in rushing per game at 121.7 yards and 23rd in passing at 197.9 yards.
In terms of points, Buffalo is third at 28.9 per game where the Eagles are 16th with 23.3 points per game.
Defense:
Defensively, the Bills and Eagles are side-by-side in yards allowed per game. Buffalo gives up 311.4 yards while the Eagles give up 315.7. Covering the pass, the Eagles give up just 193.2 per game through the air. The Bills, however, are the second-best pass defense in the league, allowing just 167.1 per game. Though, Buffalo is able to give up less in the air because teams can just run on them.
The Bills allow 144.3 yards rushing per game, which is fourth worst in the NFL. In fact, they are the only team with a winning record to be in the bottom five. The Eagles, give up the 12th most per game at 123.5, but it's still over 20 yards less than Buffalo.
Points wise, the Eagles are tied for the third-fewest points allowed at 19.3 per game. Buffalo sits right in the middle of the pack, giving up 22.9 per contest.
James Cook: The fourth year running back out of Georgia currently leads the NFL in rushing yards entering Week 17. With 1,532 yards entering the weekend, Cook is the first Bills player since O.J. Simpson in 1976 to have more than 1,500 yards rushing. He can also be the first player since Simpson in 1976 to finish as the league's top rushing. He currently has a 43-yard lead over second place Jonathan Taylor.
Josh Allen: The Bills franchise quarterback is one touchdown away from becoming the first player to score 300 total touchdowns before turning 30. He also is three away from his sixth season of 40+ touchdowns, which would tie the NFL record with Aaron Rodgers.
Saquon Barkley: While Barkley hasn't come close to the numbers he had last season, the Eagles running back should be expected to get a heavy workload against the Bills run defense. Buffalo will be without Jordan Phillips once again and Jordan Poyer is out with a hamstring. It's going to be up to the reserves to find ways to stop Barkley from putting up video game-like numbers.
