Bills' Biggest Need Revealed, and it May Surprise You cover image

The Buffalo Bills' biggest offseason need may come as a surprise to you.

The Buffalo Bills have made six straight playoff appearances and are well on their way to a seventh this season, but it's blatantly obvious that they have some serious flaws.

For example, the Bills badly need a true No. 1 wide receiver, as neither Khalil Shakir nor Keon Coleman seem to be the answer in that regard.

Buffalo failed to land a receiver before the NFL trade deadline, which was seen by many as a major miss by the franchise. But is that even the Bills' most prominent need?

Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon doesn't think so, actually citing Buffalo's interior offensive line as its biggest hole before the offseason.

"Josh Allen's Pro Bowl center, Connor McGovern, is a pending free agent, and the Bills are already looking thin at guard," Gagnon wrote. "Focus from fans and media will be on the wide receiver position, but Buffalo has plenty of talent there. It's critical that the line remains steady for Allen and Co."

The Bills' offensive line has surprisingly been an issue this season. Last year, Buffalo surrendered 14 sacks all season long, but it has already given up 17 in 2025, and while that is not a ton, it has definitely made life that much more difficult for Allen.

The Bills have actually returned their same exact starting offensive line from last year, which is what makes the unit's struggles that much more puzzling. It's not like the group is old, either, with left tackle Dion Dawkins representing the only player 30 or older.

Nevertheless, it's obvious that Buffalo has experienced a decline in the trenches for some reason, so upgrades are certainly needed during the offseason.

But has the offensive line gotten so bad that it has become more of a need than the Bills' skimpy receiving corps? That's the question.

Buffalo could have had either Jakobi Meyers or Rashid Shaheed at the deadline, both of whom were moved for a pair of Day 2 picks. But the Bills chose not to aggressively pursue either player. Perhaps it was because both receivers are impending free agents, but still, given Buffalo's desperation for a Super Bowl, a trade for either would have been helpful.

The Bills are 6-2 and will face the Miami Dolphins this Sunday.
