With Buffalo’s defense struggling, the front office may leverage Joshua Palmer’s contract to bolster the secondary before the deadline as younger stars dominate the receiving corps.
The Buffalo Bills have some decisions to make on their roster before the trade deadline on Nov. 10.
Buffalo made an aggressive move to win the Super Bowl this season when they fired Sean McDermott and promoted Joe Brady to head coach. The Bills traded with the Chicago Bears for veteran receiver DJ Moore.
Through the first four games, tight end Dalton Kincaid leads the Bills in receiving with 280 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Keon Coleman is No. 2, with 14 receptions for 217 yards and a score. Moore had 12 receptions for 178 yards and a touchdown.
While the offense hasn't missed a beat with Brady assuming head coaching duties, new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard's defense could use some extra help. Buffalo's defense is No. 25 in points allowed, giving up 26.8 points per contest.
Maybe the Bills could offload a receiver that isn't offering as much to the offense with Moore on the team and Coleman taking the next step this season.
Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports suggested there could be a market for Joshua Palmer. He signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Bills in 2025, though Buffalo has an out in 2027. The Bills could send Palmer to a team needing a receiver for depth.
Palmer has just three receptions for 80 yards, though two of those receptions have been for scores. Palmer, 27, hasn't been a big feature of the offense so far this season, but Buffalo could hold onto him in case one of their other receivers suffers an injury at some point in the season.
The Bills would have to take potential returns in mind when deciding if they want to trade Palmer, who's best season came with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022 when he caught 72 passes for 769 yards and three scores.
Bills trying to get back on track in Week 5
The Bills suffered their first loss of the season to the New England Patriots in Week 4. Buffalo has another tough challenge ahead of it when the team travels to play the Los Angeles Chargers for "Monday Night Football."
The Rams enter the contest at 2-2. They've been surprisingly underwhelming so far this season, though they showed fight in a comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.
In the preseason, the matchup between the Bills and Rams might have been thought of as a potential Super Bowl preview. On Monday night, both teams will look to avoid an ugly early season loss.
