Buffalo Bills star defensive tackle Ed Oliver is a surprise scratch against the Detroit Lions.
Buffalo Bills star defensive tackle Ed Oliver is out against the Detroit Lions after suffering a hip injury during warm-ups.
This is a major loss for the Bills, as Oliver is one of their best defensive players. In Buffalo's win in Week 1 over the Houston Texans, he had five total tackles and a tackle for loss.
Oliver appeared in only three games in the 2025 season, so the Bills will hope he is able to return in Week 3 and have a healthier 2026 campaign. In his eight years with the franchise, he has 248 total tackles, 57 tackles for loss, and 30 sacks.
In addition to Oliver being out, Buffalo also listed running back Ty Johnson, wide receiver Skyler Bell, safety Jalon Kilgore, guard Armaj Reed-Adams, tackle Jude Bowry, and defensive lineman T.J. Sanders as inactive.

Josh Allen and the offense led the way in their Week 1 win over the Texans. Allen completed 20 of 29 passes for 334 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions while rushing for 23 yards and two touchdowns.
He proved he is going to be in the MVP conversation and will need to lead Buffalo again, as their defense gave up 31 points in Week 1 and will now be without Oliver.
Detroit has an explosive offense with weapons like Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Gibbs rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in Week 1, and caught five passes for 30 yards. With Oliver out, the Bills' defensive line will have their hands full stopping Gibbs.
St. Brown will be the top weapon in the Lions' receiving game after he had 10 receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1.
This game features two of the best offenses in the league and could be a shootout, but the Bills will look to ride the momentum from their Week 1 victory and win in their first game in a new stadium.
