If there’s anyone in the NFL who knows exactly what Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is capable of, it’s Miami Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa.
Allen, the reigning NFL MVP who signed a six-year, $330 million contract extension this summer, is one of the top playmakers under center in the NFL.
Since his rookie year in 2018, Allen leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns by a QB (67), he ranks second only to Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson (6,256) in rushing yards by a QB (4,231), he’s second to Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes in passing touchdowns (197), and he’s third in passing yards (26,976).
Tagovailoa has had a front-row seat to some of Allen’s most memorable performances over the years, and it’s reflected in the amount of success—or lack thereof—he’s had against his division rival.
The 27-year-old passer is just 1-8 in his career against Allen, averaging 203.3 yards passing per game with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
So when Tagovailoa was asked about Allen and the differences in their games, he surprised some by heaping praise on his division rival.
“He's top tier,” Tagovailoa said of Allen. “If it's not with his arms, it's with his legs. That dude that can do clearly anything he wants. Definitely different skillset for me, I can't do half of what he does when it comes to running the ball and with how he can just chuck a ball down the field.”
While Tagovailoa was likely only wanting to compliment a fellow competitor, several Dolphins fans took offense to his inadvertent admission that his skillset was subpar to Allen’s.
“Nothing better than your QB talking about all the things your division rival’s QB does better than him. What did we do to deserve this kind of pain every single week?” one fan asked.
“What a [expletive] LOSER Tua is man. This is really supposed to be our ‘franchise quarterback’ when he is over here talking about our division rival’s quarterback and how much more he can do than him. We really paid this guy over 200 million dollars for 4 years 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️,” another fan added.
“’I can’t do half of what he does.’ You couldn’t waterboard that out of me if I was making 50 million a year,” one user replied.
“Someone needs to keep 2025 Tua away from microphones lol,” remarked another user.
