The Bills superstar eyes a potential move to the broadcast booth, revealing the specific conditions that could lure him behind the microphone once his playing days end.
When players eventually call it quits on their careers, there are often questions about what they'll do for the years that follow.
Some get into coaching or management, others exit the spotlight entirely and enjoy time with their families, and many decide to get into broadcasting. For Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, the latter sounds like something he could be interested in.
Speaking recently with Alex Sherman of CNBC, Buffalo's franchise quarterback was asked about what he may do when he retires. He said that the idea of being a broadcaster would be "cool" if he could do it a certain way.
"I do think it would be cool if you can keep it from a strictly broadcasting angle," Allen said. "When players go from players to journalists and say certain things that they hated people saying about them, I think that’s where it gets a little murky for me."
He continued to say it would be something he would "entertain" when the time comes.
"I can’t say for sure, ‘yes’ or for sure ‘no’ right now, because I do go back and forth on it. But yeah, I’d have to put some more thought into it," he said.
While thinking about the future is smart for anyone, Bills fans are certainly hoping that next step doesn't come anytime soon.
Allen turned 30 in May and is entering his ninth season in the NFL. For most players, that would mean he's well into the second half of his career. For the former MVP, he's still playing at an elite level for the Bills and is regarded as one of the best, if not the best, quarterbacks in the league.
He's currently under contract with the Bills until 2030, when he'll be 34 years old. At the point, there's likely a decision that will have to be made about not only if Allen wants to remain in Buffalo, but if he wants to keep playing at all.
