How Will the Bills Rebound From a Disappointing 24-14 Week 6 Loss to the Atlanta Falcons?

The Buffalo Bills have followed up an impressive 4-0 start with disappointing back-to-back losses to the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons in Weeks 5 and 6.

Buffalo’s offense, which was ranked as high as No. 2 in the league just one week ago, labored to muster 291 yards against a stout Falcons defense that rattled reigning MVP Josh Allen.

The 29-year-old QB was blitzed on 60% of his drop backs and pressured on 48.6%, he was sacked four times and threw two interceptions — and a season-high 23.5% of his pressures turned into sacks, per Pro Football Focus.

In addition to Buffalo’s offensive line issues against Atlanta, head coach Sean McDermott also uncharacteristically called out the team’s wide receivers and tight ends for hanging Allen out to dry minutes after the game ended.

“You have to evaluate everything to make sure that we’re looking in the right spots in terms of the coverages we’re getting and the quarterback’s progression overall, I could feel…it was too hard on our quarterback,” he told reporters.

“It doesn’t need to be that hard all the time, where he’s having to run out of the pocket. I thought at times we picked up the pressure and other times the pocket was getting affected early, so the rush and coverages…it was disrupting our offense to early in the down.”

Joshua Palmer led all WRs with 60 yards on two catches, Khalil Shakir had just 33 yards on three catches, and Keon Coleman contributed just 11 yards on three catches, leading us to ask the question — is it time for the Bills to go all-in on acquire a bona-fide No. 1 wide receiver before the Nov. 4 trade deadline?

If Buffalo does start scouring the trade market, perhaps it will look to add another cornerback as well. Every Bills CB is allowing a completion percentage of 68 or higher and a passer rating against of 98.8 or higher.

Getting 2025 first-round pick Maxwell Hairston back will help, but it’s clear some form of change is needed in Buffalo’s secondary.
