The Buffalo Bills have emerged as a possible destination for running back Alvin Kamara.
Last season, the Buffalo Bills saw running back James Cook win the NFL rushing title. After locking up a four-year, $48 million extension with Cook, the return on investment was immediate.
Cook remains one of the best running backs in the NFL entering the 2026 season. However, there could be a need for an upgrade at the position behind him.
Right now, the Bills have Ty Johnson, Ray Davis, and Frank Gore Jr. on the depth chart behind Cook. Johnson has been solid, but not elite. Could Buffalo have interest in upgrading its backup running back situation if the right option came available?
How about New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara?
Bob Rose of Saints Wire has suggested the Bills as a potential Kamara destination if New Orleans chooses to trade or cut the longtime star.
"Remember that the new head coach of the Bills is Joe Brady, who was an offensive assistant for the Saints during Kamara's first two years in 2017 and 2018. Additionally, Pete Carmichael was brought on to be Buffalo's offensive coordinator this offseason," Rose wrote.
"Carmichael was Kamara's offensive coordinator in New Orleans through 2023. Under that offensive staff, including Sean Payton of course, Kamara was among the most versatile and feared offensive weapons in the NFL."
Kamara may not be the star that he once was with the Saints. He has fallen off a bit over the last couple of years, but would still be a clear upgrade over Johnson, Davis, and Gore.
Last season in New Orleans, Kamara played in 11 games. He carried the football 131 times for 471 yards and a touchdown, averaging 3.6 yards per attempt. Kamara also caught 33 passes for 186 yards.
Back in 2024, however, he produced at a much higher level. Kamara ran for 950 yards and six touchdowns on 228 carries, averaging 4.2 yards per attempt. He caught 68 passes for 543 yards and two scores during that campaign.
Whether or not the Bills have any interest in Kamara or not remains unknown. But, if he does become available, the Buffalo coaching staff has plenty of connections to him that could make Kamara a potential option.
