Buffalo's star wideout dodged a long-term setback after landing awkwardly against Detroit. Reports indicate the shoulder stinger is day-to-day, potentially keeping Moore active for next week.
You can breathe a sigh of relief. According to a new report, the shoulder injury that Buffalo Bills wide receiver DJ Moore suffered on Thursday night isn't as bad as originally feared.
Moore left Buffalo's 41-31 victory over the Detroit Lions in the second quarter with what the team described as a "stinger". After attempting to make a diving catch in the endzone, Moore landed awkwardly on his shoulder, sparking concern across Bills Mafia.
He would head to the locker room after the injury and was ruled out during halftime.
When asked after the game, head coach Joe Brady said he didn't have an update at the time on Moore. He was hopeful, however, that he'd have one on Friday.
That update has come.
While nothing has been officially announced by Brady or the Bills organization, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Moore avoided serious injury.
In a post on social media Friday morning, Schefter said that "doctors do not consider [the injury] serious and will leave him day to day."
According to Schefter's source, Moore even "has a chance to play next week, but it's not a lock."
Even if he doesn't suit up next week against the Los Angeles Chargers, hearing that it's not expected to be something that will keep him out for the long-term is the best news Buffalo could've received.
Moore was acquired from Chicago to be the team's new number one receiver, and, after one week, it appeared he would be just that. Against Houston in Week 1, Moore had 5 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. On Thursday, however, he finished with zero catches in almost two quarters before leaving the game. He didn't have a rushing attempt, but that went for a loss of one.
If Moore does have to miss time, the Bills will have a decision to make at wide receiver. The team has already used two of Greg Dortch's three practice squad elevations, meaning that the next one will require a decision to be made on his roster status. Rookie Skyler Bell, on the other hand, has been inactive the first two weeks. Moore's injury could open the door for Bell to see his first regular season NFL action this weekend.
