The Buffalo Bills made plenty of moves to overhaul their roster this offseason, but one NFL analyst doesn't care for what they did, especially when it comes to one major move.
Not everyone seems to like what the Buffalo Bills have done this offseason.
After one of the more exciting, you can say, offseasons in years, Buffalo has seen a pretty large overhaul to its coaching staff and roster.
The team has a new head coach in Joe Brady after Sean McDermott was fired. And with a new head coach comes a new system and assistant coaches. That even means new schemes, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Because of that, Buffalo also made a lot of changes to the roster. Longtime players like Taron Johnson, Damar Hamlin, Tre'Davious White, and Matt Milano are gone. And players who were only around for a short stint, such as Taylor Rapp, Curtis Samuel, and Joey Bosa, are also out the door.
But that doesn't mean the cabinet's bare. The Bills brought in DJ Moore via trade to be the new number one target for Josh Allen, Bradley Chubb signed to give a boost to both the pass rush and run defense, and the defensive backfield has several new players in Geno Stone, Dee Alford, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
For some fans, there's excitement about what this new-look unit can be. But for one NFL analyst, the moves didn't really bring a lot of excitement heading towards the NFL Draft.
ESPN's Ben Solak recently revealed his free agency class rankings after the first two weeks of the league year. And to say he didn't care for what Buffalo did would be a bit of an understatement.
Solak has the Bills ranked 29th out of 32 teams. He said that his rankings looked at things like the value a team got for the money spent, roster flexibility, contract details that give a team leverage, and what they could've done but didn't.
For Buffalo, Solak admitted that he loved the re-signing of Connor McGovern, especially after losing David Edwards to New Orleans. But the other big splash of the offseason left him scratching his head.
"I've had a lower opinion than consensus on Moore going back to his Carolina days, and I continue to have my suspicions," Solak said of the decision to trade for DJ Moore.
"He's fast but not fast enough to be a true field-stretching threat. He has YAC ability but lacks the toughness and intensity of a true tackle breaker. And his mental lapses in route running over the past few seasons in Chicago have dramatically hampered his impact as a high-volume WR1 who gets targets at all three levels of the field."
Solak admits that Moore is the best receiver on the Bills roster right now, but he's hesitant to believe that he can step up his game and put up strong numbers. That's even with Allen throwing him the ball.
