Brandon Beane knows he has an important offseason up ahead. After another season in which the Buffalo Bills came up short of a Super Bowl, the team fired head coach Sean McDermott while promoting Beane to President of Football Operations.
Now, Beane, on top of his duties as general manager, oversees the entire football operation of the team.
With that comes even more pressure to build a roster that is good enough to get through the "proverbial playoff wall" that has stopped them for the last seven seasons.
In a recent interview with WIVB-Buffalo's Josh Reed, Beane said he's not going to be afraid to make moves that will make the Bills a better team. He says he needs to make sure that he doesn't have guys that look like him suiting up alongside Josh Allen on game day.
To do that, it's about being creative. Beane then touched on the fact that he tried to make a splash at the trade deadline last season, but it just never came to be.
"I am always looking for ways---trying to be creative, whether it's with the cap, contracts," Beane said. "We made some aggressive plays at the trade deadline to try and get something done. [We] could not get the other, those opportunities, we couldn't get those teams to want to truly engage with us."
For Bills fans, many will tell you that their top wishes for the roster would be to acquire a true number one wide receiver as well as a pass rusher that can bring down opposing quarterbacks. Buffalo has made moves to do just that in the past, but there's a growing sense of urgency among the Bills Mafia that it has to happen sooner rather than later.
For Beane, it's all about finding the right situations that allow for those types of moves to be made.
"If there's an opportunity that I can make work with all that, I wouldn't hesitate to be aggressive," he said.
