With reports that he wants out, the Buffalo Bills are being linked by at least one report to New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has often said that he's always looking for ways to improve the team. Over the years, he's often been linked, or even officially made a swing, for top players to bring to Orchard Park.
From the trade that nearly brought Antonio Brown to Buffalo to the blockbuster to acquire Stefon Diggs to even the conversations regarding Maxx Crosby, there never seems to be a name that Beane doesn't at least check in on. And now, you can add another star to that list.
On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that New York Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade from the team. This request comes after negotiations on a new deal had failed to result in an extension.
"Lawrence and the Giants have been through two offseasons attempting to negotiate a contract reflecting his value to the team over the past three years, but there has not been any progress, per sources," Schefter said.
Now, Lawrence wants out, and it's no secret that he would, and will, be a highly sought-after player if the Giants were to trade him. And, according to a separate report, the Bills are at least one of the teams who've already made a call for the 29-year-old.
Per Easton Butler of 24/7 Sports, Buffalo is one of at least four teams that have reached out to the Giants.
"Several teams have called the Giants about Star DT Dexter Lawrence, with some including the Packers, Bears, Jaguars, and Bills," Butler said. "Per source, 'A Quinnen Williams type trade to start a conversation'."
Williams, if you recall, was traded by the New York Jets to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2027 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. So, you can assume it would take at least a first, a second, and a roster player at minimum.
Should Lawrence be traded, Butler says that it would likely happen before this month's NFL Draft. That said, it's not something that he expects to happen.
"If traded, Lawrence will be moved prior to the draft, but isn't expected to be moved, regardless of the public trade request," he said.
Lawrence has two years left on his current contract, where he's set to make $20 million this year and $22 million next season. For cap hits, this season carries a $26.96 million hit, while next year comes with a $28.96 million hit.
