Miami poaches linebacker Andre Jones Jr. from Buffalo’s practice squad, securing a versatile special teams asset while leaving the Bills with a fresh vacancy to fill immediately.
The Buffalo Bills have lost one of their own to an AFC East rival.
First reported by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Miami Dolphins are signing linebacker Andre Jones Jr. off the Bills practice squad. The move puts Jones on the 53-man roster and gives him a chance to dress during the regular season.
Jones Jr., who can provide special teams play, goes to Miami to join special teams coordinator Chris Tabor. Tabor spent last season as Buffalo's special teams coordinator under former head coach Sean McDermott.
Jones Jr.leaves the Bills after spending the last year and a half in Buffalo. A seventh-round pick of Washington in 2023, Jones signed with the Bills in August 2025.
He played in three regular-season games in 2025, tallying five tackles. When he did get the chance to play, Jones Jr. played both on defense and on special teams. He had 38 snaps lined up on defense in 2025 and 44 on special teams.
This year, Jones Jr. was part of the final cuts ahead of the regular season. He was quickly re-signed to Buffalo's practice squad.
With Jones Jr. now in South Florida, the Bills have an opening on their practice squad. That opening likely won't be there long as Buffalo is often quick to fill any spots they have on the unit.
Speaking of the practice squad, the team does have a decision to make soon regarding two of its players. Both Frank Gore Jr. and Greg Dortch were elevated in each of Buffalo's first two games. Rules allow a max of three elevations per player before a decision has to be made on moving them up to the 53-man roster.
The Bills will also have to make a decision next week on DT Phidarian Mathis who is eligible to return from his three-game suspension.
