For the first time since 2017, the Buffalo Bills are looking for a new head coach. The team announced on Monday morning that they had fired Sean McDermott after nine seasons.
The news was first broken by NFL Insider Tom Pelissero.
After the news broke, you saw many current and former Bills players take to social media with their reactions to the news. The consensus seemed to be a state of shock from everyone who played under McDermott.
Daquan Jones said, "[it] don't make sense, but ya got what ya wanted."
Jordan Phillips added, "This **** here is so stupid, honestly sickening. The best coach I've ever been around."
Other players who chimed in were Taron Johnson, Damar Hamlin, and Shaq Lawson.
NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe said that he talked to three Bills players on Monday. While he didn't say who he talked to or everything said, one thing he mentioned was that one player responded with "WTF".
Another unnamed player told WGRZ TV's Jon Scott that it was "bull****".
One current player that hasn't been heard from yet, however, is quarterback Josh Allen. Allen didn't speak at locker room cleanout, which had many wondering why. It remains to be seen when, or if, Allen will speak to the media.
When it comes to former players, former offensive guard Jon Feliciano said that he believes it should be someone from the Kyle Shanahan coaching staff.
"Would love to see Josh and cook in that offense," he said.
Former wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie simply said, "Thank You."
With McDermott gone, Buffalo will be looking for its 21st head coach (counting interims) in franchise history. McDermott leaves the team with a 98-50 regular season record and a .662 winning percentage. That puts him at the top in franchise history when it comes to winning percentage.
Marv Levy remains the franchise leader in wins with 112 over 12 seasons.
