DeWayne Carter, sidelined by a torn Achilles in 2025, declares himself ready for training camp, eager to contribute to the Buffalo Bills' new defensive scheme.

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle DeWayne Carter says he'll be ready for training camp.

In a recent appearance on former Bills center and current radio analyst Eric Wood's Centered on Buffalo podcast, Carter spoke about the torn Achilles tendon that ended his sophomore season before it could even begin.

Carter told Wood that he's progressing well and feels like he'll be ready to return and be a help to the team.

"I'm eight months post-op now," Carter said, adding that he's feeling strong and that he's primarily stayed in Buffalo to rehab the injury.

Wood followed that up by asking if the goal is to be on the field for training camp. Carter doesn't see a reason why he wouldn't be.

"Yeah, yep, I’ll be ready to go," he said. "I'm excited. I'm really excited."

After talking about the injury, Wood and Carter pivoted to Buffalo's defensive identity under new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard. Leonhard is bringing with him an attacking 3-4 base defense, and Carter was asked about how he thinks his role will change.

"We talked a little bit," Carter said of his role. "I think one of my calling cards before I got into the league was that I'm kind of plug-and-play.

"I can play anywhere from 0 to a 4i. I even played a little bit of 5 in college as well. I think with that 3-4 element that we have now, it’s going to be interesting to see...basically learn every spot and then we'll figure out where to go from there."

A third-round pick in 2024, Carter played in 1`1 games as a rookie, starting three of them. In those 11 games, he had 14 tackles and five tackles for loss.

He tore his Achilles tendon last August during training camp, and was placed on injured reserve in early September.
