Redefining gridiron toughness, the Buffalo Bills coach stresses that true strength lies in vulnerability and connection, urging men to tackle internal struggles by leaning on their teammates.
Buffalo Bills head coach Joe Brady is encouraging men to take care of their mental health and to support those around them who may be struggling.
Earlier this week, Brady spoke about the importance of communication, connection, and checking in on others rather than carrying life's challenges alone.
"Strong teams aren't built by pretending everything's okay," Brady said. "A connected football team is built by men who are willing to speak up, check in and carry the weight together."
While Brady's message was directed toward men, the sentiment applies to football as much as it does to everyday life.
"You can't expect to perform at a high level physically if you ignore what's happening mentally," he said.
Mental health continues to be a growing topic of conversation throughout professional sports, especially in the NFL. Young players like Marshawn Kneeland and Rondale Moore have sadly taken their own lives recently after personal battles. Lives cut short far too soon.
The sport has long been associated with toughness, resilience, and "playing through the pain". But in recent years, athletes, coaches, and teams have become more open about discussing mental health and the importance of seeking help when needed.

Brady's message focuses less on football and more on the importance of looking after one another. After all, if you don't take care of yourself, how can you realistically expect to take care of others?
"Take care of your mind, take care of your team," he said.
As the Bills prepare for another season with high expectations, Brady's message serves as a reminder that success isn't only measured by wins and losses. Sometimes, it starts with making sure the people around you know they don't have to face their struggles alone.
