Joe Brady isn't interested in preseason expectations, saying the Bills "haven't earned a damn thing" as training camp begins.

The Buffalo Bills enter the 2026 season with some of the highest expectations in the NFL.

They're viewed as one of the favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, they have the reigning NFL MVP in Josh Allen, and they return a roster built to compete for a championship.

None of that matters to Joe Brady.

Speaking as the Bills opened training camp, Brady made it clear that outside expectations won't change the approach inside the building. As far as he's concerned, Buffalo starts camp with nothing guaranteed.

"We haven't done a damn thing," Brady said when asked about the expectations surrounding his team. "What I don't want is, well, we know we have a good offense, or, you know, man, we don't know anything."

It's a message Brady echoed several times throughout his appearance with the media on Wednesday.

While he acknowledged the expectations surrounding the Bills, he stressed that talking about winning a Super Bowl in July accomplishes nothing if the team isn't putting in the work every day.

"We haven't earned a damn thing," Brady said. "We'll be the football team we're going to be, but it's going to be based upon the way that we practice, the way that our mindset is, how we approach every single day. We can say, 'Hey, we need to go win a Super Bowl this year,' but what does this practice look like today?"

For Brady, that's where Buffalo's focus needs to be.

Rather than looking ahead to January, he wants the Bills to concentrate on stacking productive days throughout training camp. He believes the habits the team builds now will determine whether it can meet the lofty expectations that come with being one of the league's top contenders.

"I don't believe anybody rises to low expectations," Brady said. "But none of that matters right now. It's about the work that we're going to put in to get to that point."

That mindset also extends to how Brady views the opening days of camp.

Instead of expecting flawless practices, he's embracing the mistakes that naturally come with the start of training camp because they provide opportunities to teach and reinforce the standard he expects from his team.

"I want there to be mistakes today," Brady said. "It's great for the team meetings... to be able to showcase what that looks like and how we can clean up the standard."

Brady also emphasized that the mentality he's preaching in July can't suddenly appear once the postseason arrives.

"Our mindset can't change once we get to the playoffs, because we're not given that," Brady said.

The Bills may enter the season with championship aspirations, but Brady isn't interested in talking about where Buffalo could be five months from now. His focus is on what happens every day between now and Week 1.

If the Bills are going to reach the Super Bowl, Brady believes they'll earn that opportunity through the work they put in now, not because anyone expects them to get there.
