Should the Bills trade for Myles Garrett?
Football fans woke up Monday to one of the biggest rumors to hit the mill in some time. Myles Garrett could actually be available.
Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reports that, with June 1 here, "it now seems as though there might be some fire where the smoke is coming from in regards to the possibility of Garrett being moved."
Of course, this isn't the first time that Garrett's name has been brought up in trade talks. After all, before he signed his four-year, $160 million extension last year, he publicly requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. That obviously didn't happen at the time, but could it this time? And, if so, what would it take for the Buffalo Bills to bring in the future Hall of Fame edge rusher?
Bringing Myles Garrett To Buffalo
If Garett is truly available, 31 teams in the NFL will be in contact to see what it would take to acquire the 31-year-old. For the Bills, general manager Brandon Beane has been no stranger to being in the conversation for elite players. While most never materialize, it's clear Beane is open to just about anything to make the team better.
But what would it take for Garrett to become a Bill?
In short: a lot.
To trade for a player of Garrett's caliber requires multiple assets to go the other way. For the Bills, you're looking at multiple picks and a player or two.
Using Over The Cap's trade calculator, we put together a hypothetical deal between the Bills and Browns.
To bring Garrett to the other side of Lake Erie, Buffalo would send a package of a first-round pick in both 2027 and 2028 along with edge rusher Gregory Rousseau. That would tip the scales towards the Browns in the Fitzgerald-Spielberger chart. But that's only based on numbers and perceived value.
The real winner would be decided by what happens on the field in the coming years. If Buffalo manages to win a Super Bowl, any price would be worth it.
So, would the Browns accept a deal with a return like that? Or would the Bills have to add even more? It's all up for debate. What's no debate, however, is what Garett would bring to any team that's able to pry him from Cleveland.
