NFL insiders name Buffalo’s dual-threat powerhouse the league's most unstoppable force after he slashed turnovers and shattered records while elevating a roster lacking elite wideout talent.
If you ask any Buffalo Bills fan who the best quarterback in the NFL is, the answer is always going to be Josh Allen. While he hasn't found his way to a Super Bowl just yet, seeing what Allen has done in his career with the talent around him has only made his case as the top signal caller stronger.
And, as it turns out, many around the NFL agree.
On Monday, ESPN released its rankings of the top quarterbacks in the league. These rankings come from surveying league executives, coaches, and scouts, and focuses on who the best players in the league are at this time. And, to many, Allen is that player.
According to the voting, Allen finished with an average ranking of 2.10, with the highest being 1st and the lowest being 4th. But why was he viewed as the best quarterback in the league?
"He's the most singularly unstoppable player at the position when you get his A-game," one GM told the outlet. "And he has cut down on the turnovers the past two seasons."
What also stood out was the talent Allen has around him. One coordinator who took part in the survey put it quite bluntly: "Look who he was throwing to. His wideouts weren't great. But he made it work and brought out their best. He elevates the people around him, clearly."
But it's not just about what he's done with seemingly less around him than other quarterbacks. It's about how he's improved over the last few seasons.
As ESPN points out, Allen went from a 15.7 interception average from 2021-2023 to eight from 2024-2025. He's also cut back on his fumbles, with just 12 in the last two seasons compared to 20 from the prior two.
And let's not forget about the records. Allen is the only player to have at least 200 passing touchdowns and 50 rushing. He's also the youngest player to reach 300 career touchdowns, and holds the record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
Allen being at the top of any ranking should no longer come as a surprise. At the end of the day, however, it's about finally getting the one thing that's eluded him over his career, a Lombardi trophy.
