Buffalo faces a depth test in Houston as three players across the roster battle injuries, potentially forcing the team to elevate practice squad talent for Sunday's opener.
The Buffalo Bills have announced that three players are officially questionable for the team's season-opening matchup against the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon.
After practice on Friday afternoon, the team revealed that running back Ty Johnson, defensive back Jordan Hancock, and defensive lineman T.J. Sanders all carry the designation entering the weekend.
For what it's worth, all three were seen on the field during the portion of Friday's practice open to the media. It was the first time that Johnson had practiced since suffering a hamstring injury during the Return of the Blue & Red practice in August. Hancock is recovering from a quad injury, while Sanders is dealing with a knee issue.
As far as the chances of any of them suiting up in Houston, Brady said they'll play it by ear.
"We'll take it up to game time and see what that looks like," he said.
Should none of the three be ready to go on Sunday, the Bills will have a decision to make. The team can call up two players from the practice squad each week. Should the Bills go in with only two healthy running backs, it appears clear that Frank Gore Jr. is a likely elevation candidate to give Buffalo a third running back.
On the defensive side, if Hancock can't go, then Geno Stone seems to be the other player most likely to be called up and activated. On the defensive line, the team has enough depth that missing Sanders for a week shouldn't cause too many problems.
The rest of the roster is healthy and ready to go, which is certain to put to rest some of the concerns fans had heading into the week. Khalil Shakir, who had been banged up at the end of the preseason, didn't appear once on this week's injury report.
The Bills kickoff in Houston at 1pm ET on Sunday, September 13. Bills Roundtable will have full coverage before, during, and after the game.
