New numbers reveal how Josh Allen separated himself from every QB while overcoming the Buffalo Bills’ defensive issues.
Josh Allen delivered one of the most impressive and overlooked performances of the 2025 season, and a viral stat is now putting it into focus for the Buffalo Bills.
A recent post from Warren Sharp highlights just how dominant Allen has been in situations where most teams fall apart. When Buffalo’s defense allowed 28 or more points last season, Allen led the Bills to an .800 win percentage, going 4-1 in those games.
Those games are supposed to be losses.
Across the NFL, when a defense gives up that many points, the expectation is that you lose. The margin for error disappears, and even elite quarterbacks usually can't consistently overcome the odds.
Allen did, and he's been doing it for years.
He ranks No. 1 in the league in win percentage in those high-scoring games over every recent stretch. That includes the last five seasons from 2021 to 2025. No matter the sample size, Allen sits at the top.
That consistency points directly to a larger issue in Buffalo.
The Bills’ defense has had well-documented struggles, especially in big moments and against top-tier offenses. Injuries have played a role, but so has inconsistency. There have been too many games where Buffalo has been forced into shootouts rather than controlling the pace.
That's where Allen changes everything.
Instead of playing conservative football, he leans into the chaos. He pushes the ball downfield, extends plays, and turns must-score drives into touchdowns. When the defense cannot get stops, Allen has repeatedly taken on the burden of outscoring opponents.
It's something most quarterbacks haven't been able to replicate. Even players like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson didn't manage a single win in those situations last season, which shows how difficult it really is.
For the Bills, it's become a defining trait over the years. When things break down defensively, they rely on Allen to carry them, and more often than not, he delivers. But that reliance ultimately led to a change being made when it didn't happen in the 2025 AFC Divisional game against Denver.
With Joe Brady as head coach and Jim Leonhard running the defense, fans can only hope that the team won't need Allen to be Superman as much moving forward.
