A humiliating loss to the Patriots exposes Buffalo’s fatal flaws. Mike and Anthony dissect Josh Allen’s recurring mistakes and a vanishing defense that demands perfection to win.
The Buffalo Bills are 3-1 and sit atop the AFC East after four weeks. And while most fan bases would feel happy about this start to the season, there's something different with the Bills.
The team is coming off a pretty embarrassing 29-26 loss to the New England Patriots that kept the defending AFC East champions within striking distance of first place. But it wasn't just the mistakes Josh Allen made, Maxwell Hairston's disastrous afternoon, or the poor play of the defense that made Sunday's loss bad. Rather, it's everything that the loss continued to represent.
A team that needs its quarterback to play perfect to win games. A team that can't stop any offense in the NFL right now. A team that, without Allen, would likely win no more than four or five games.
Welcome to Episode 52 of the Bills Roundtable Podcast with hosts Mike Straw and Anthony Moeglin.
In this week's episode, join Mike and Anthony as they look back on the loss to New England and why it's much more than just one loss.
This is about Allen continuing to make the same mistakes year in, year out, only to preach the same message to the press afterwards about being smarter with the football and "not making that throw". But is this a case of Allen being careless, or convincing himself he has to make these big plays in order for Buffalo to even have a chance to win?
The Bills have scored at least 24 points in every game this season, and needed to score more than 31 to win three of them. The one they couldn't reach the mark, they lost.
Why does the offense still need to put up video-game numbers week in and week out just to win games? Where's the defense?
It was supposed to be an aggressive, attack the football defense. Instead, you have players playing 10-yards off on a 4th & 3, you have them walking to the ball to make a stop, and you have unknown players making game-winning touchdowns after your offense gets you the lead.
Just how bad of a state are things, really? Let's talk about it.
