Buffalo Bills Clearly Best Fit for Disgruntled Star WR cover image

The Buffalo Bills need to pursue adding this star wide receiver.

The Buffalo Bills are in some trouble as we inch closer and closer toward the NFL playoffs, as they are just 3-4 over their last seven games.

There have been a litany of issues in the Bills' struggles, and while the defense — particularly against the run — has been the central focus, it's also hard to ignore the fact that Buffalo does not have a No. 1 wide receiver.

Ever since the Bills traded Stefon Diggs in April 2024, the wide receiver room has been a problem. Khalil Shakir is definitely a nice piece, but he is not a top guy. Buffalo was hoping it would be Keon Coleman, but he can't even seem to avoid discipline from his own team.

The Bills' lack of elite weapons has made life that much more difficult for quarterback Josh Allen, which is why Buffalo definitely needs to pursue one player in particular this coming offseason: San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk.

Aiyuk has not played at all in 2025 thanks to a torn ACL he suffered midway through last year, but he has also not been communicating with the 49ers. He has been missing team meetings and has also declined to participate in team activities, which has San Francisco prepared to release him after the season in spite of signing him to a four-year, $120 million extension before 2024.

When healthy, Aiyuk has proven to be a terrific pass-catcher. He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2022 and 2023, topping out at 1,342 yards in the latter campaign. Yes, he has largely been a malcontent for much of the last two years, which is definitely concerning considering the franchise he plays for and the money he received.

But if any club can afford to take a risk on Aiyuk, it's the Bills.

The good news for Buffalo in this regard is that it wouldn't have to sign him to a massive deal. The chances of Aiyuk landing an incredibly lucrative long-term contract this offseason are rather slim given that he hasn't even taken the field since October 2024.

The Bills could probably add Aiyuk on a deal laced with incentives to protect themselves. At this point, the 27-year-old will probably have to settle for a contract that does not include a ton of guaranteed dollars.

Buffalo can always draft a wide receiver, too, but it would strongly benefit the Bills to give Aiyuk a chance in order to put Allen in the best position possible to succeed.
