Explosive wideout DJ Moore and veteran pass rusher Bradley Chubb join Buffalo’s quest for a Super Bowl. Their arrival promises to redefine both sides of the ball.
The Buffalo Bills made several notable additions this offseason, but two stand above the rest.
DJ Moore arrived to give Josh Allen another proven weapon in the passing game. Bradley Chubb was brought in to help fix a pass rush that has too often disappeared in Buffalo's biggest games.
Both players are expected to play major roles this season, and both were acquired with one goal in mind: helping the Bills finally get over the hump and reach the Super Bowl.
But which addition will have the biggest impact on Buffalo's season? There are compelling arguments for both.
Let's start with Chubb.
For years, one of the biggest criticisms of the Bills has been their inability to consistently pressure elite quarterbacks in the postseason. Buffalo has invested heavily in its defensive line, and Greg Rousseau has developed into one of the NFL's more promising edge rushers, but the Bills have still searched for another player offenses have to account for every snap.
If he can return to the form that once made him one of the league's better pass rushers, the ripple effects could be enormous. Rousseau would see more favorable matchups. The secondary wouldn't have to hold coverage as long. The entire defense would benefit from a more consistent four- or five-man rush.
When you're trying to beat quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson in January, that's a significant advantage.
Now, what about Moore?
Buffalo won games and Allen broke records without a true No. 1 receiver last season. And even without one, the offense remained one of the league's best.
Moore has the chance to make it even better.
Few receivers in the NFL have been as consistently productive over the last several years. Despite playing with a revolving door of quarterbacks throughout much of his career, Moore has recorded four 1,000-yard seasons and established himself as a reliable playmaker when called upon.
Now he'll be catching passes from the best quarterback he's ever played with. That alone should excite Bills fans.
Moore doesn't need to post career numbers to justify the move. His presence alone changes how defenses approach Buffalo's offense. Opposing teams can't focus all of their attention on Shakir or James Cook or even Dalton Kincaid. Other players like Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer should also see more favorable matchups.
And, perhaps most importantly, Allen finally has another proven receiver capable of winning consistently against top coverage.
As important as pass rush is, the Bills already know they have an offense capable of competing with anyone. Adding a player like Moore makes them even more dangerous.
