Bills Make Historic Josh Allen Announcement After Panthers Win cover image

Reigning MVP Broke 2 Records in Week 8's Victory Over Carolina

The Buffalo Bills improved to 5-2 with Sunday’s 40-9 Week 8 win over the Carolina Panthers, and if you ask quarterback Josh Allen, he didn’t have much to do with it.

Allen completed 12 of 19 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown, and he added two rushing touchdowns, but the star of the show was running back James Cook, who ran roughshod for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

After the game, Allen told Fox Sports’ Pam Oliver that Cook was mostly responsible for the win while admitting that he had an unusually off game himself.

“Our O-line played a heck of a game today,” Allen stated. “I’m not going to lie, I played terrible int hat first half, but found a way to get it done and [we’re] 5-2.

“I think I was just being a little too maybe eager at the beginning, trying to force a couple of things, but again, just getting back to trusting my teammates and the 10 guy on the field with me, and obviously, having James Cook helps.”

And while Allen may have been critical of his performance, fans didn’t see it that way. In fact, he broke an NFL record during the game.

Allen surpassed former Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots QB Cam Newton (45) for the most games in NFL history with a passing and rushing touchdown (46). It’s the third time this season Allen recorded a passing and rushing touchdown in the same game.

On Tuesday, the Bills announced that he broke another record, as Allen also became the first players in Bills franchise history to record 70 rushing touchdowns.

Thurman Thomas (65) and O.J. Simpson (57) are the only other players in Bills history to hit the 50-rushing touchdown plateau.

Allen is now just six touchdowns away from breaking the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns by a QB, which is also held by Newton (75).
