The Buffalo Bills rank fourth in the NFL in scoring (34 points per game) and sixth in passing (257 yards per game), but that doesn’t mean the team likely won’t consider any available option to upgrade its passing attack.
Quarterback Josh Allen is playing at an MVP level through the first three games, passing for 755 yards with five touchdowns and zero interceptions along with 114 yards rushing and an additional score on the ground.
Second-year receiver Keon Coleman has seemingly taken a big step forward in his development, posting 14 catches on 18 targets for 158 yards — all team-highs.
Tight end Dalton Kincaid seems to be stepping into the game-breaking threat he was drafted to be two years ago, and Khali Shakir is having a solid start to the year with 11 catches, 121 yards and a touchdown.
But do the Bills think they need to upgrade its group of pass-catchers with its “Big 3” off to strong starts? ESPN’s Dan Graziano seems to think so.
Graziano recently listed the Bills among a handful of teams who could potentially trade for a top receiver if one is made available before the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
“The Saints don't look as if they're going anywhere this season, and they have Rashid Shaheed on an expiring contract and Chris Olave with one year (his fifth-year option) left on his deal,” Graziano noted. “Would their new coaching staff make either or both of those players available?
“Could Calvin Ridley, who has struggled along with the rest of the offense in Tennessee, use a change of scenery? I don't think we can rule out teams such as Buffalo, Kansas City, Green Bay and/or San Francisco if the right impact receiver becomes available.”
While Ridley would be an intriguing acquisition, the three years and $82 million he has left on his contract would likely scare Buffalo away. Ridley turns 31 in a few months, and he’s off to a forgettable start in the Titans’ Cam Ward era (eight catches, 111 yards in three games).
Olave, on the other hand, is younger (he just turned 25), cheaper (he’s in the final year of his rookie deal with a club option for 2026), and has been way more productive through the early part of this year (23 catches, 165 yards in three games).
A former No. 11 overall pick, Olave had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023 before suffering a season-ending concussion that forced him to miss nine games last season.
A starting trio of Olave, Coleman, and Shakir with Kincaid running free down the middle might just be too enticing for Bills general manager Brandon Beane to pass up if the price is right.
