Former Baltimore Ravens DB Ed Reed Recently Gave Allen Rave Reviews
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is one of, if not the top passers in the NFL.
The reigning MVP currently ranks 12th in the league in passing yards per game (232.8), 10th in touchdown passes (10) and passer rating (103.1), but perhaps what makes him so dangerous is his running ability.
Allen is tied for the NFL lead in rushing touchdowns among QBs (three), and he’s second among passers to Justin Fields (257) in rushing yards (254). Allen’s dual-threat ability is what makes the Buffalo offense one of the toughest to game plan for.
It’s also why Baltimore Ravens Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed recently gave him a glowing review while breaking down one of Allen’s runs from earlier this season.
During a recent episode of “The Blueprint,” Reed, an eight-time All-Pro selection, nine-time Pro Bowler, and three-time league interceptions leader, and former Super Bowl champion, gave a play-by-play breakdown of Allen slicing through the New York Jets defense, explaining what sets Allen apart from other players at his position.
“What makes him elite is those seven inches between his ears,” Reed said. “As you can see, he can read the rush, he knows the Mike (linebacker), he knows his man, he motions his guy, he drops back, he’s looking at his guys but he’s also seeing and feeling the rush. The pocket collapses, and when the pocket collapse on a running quarterback, he’s going to take off.
“Josh Allen just sees the hole. He has that running back-type of skill — he sees it. He’s a smart quarterback. That’s a jump, and then a cut like a running back. The man is a super athlete.”
Since his rookie year in 2018, Allen leads all quarterbacks in rushing touchdowns (68), and he ranks second only to current Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (6,339) in rushing yards by a QB (4,396) during that span.
While Jackson has the edge in yards, Allen has nearly double the amount of rushing scores (68 to 34).
The Bills are coming off their bye week and will travel to Carolina to play the Panthers. Allen is 7-0 the week after coming off a bye, but he has a tough test ahead of him against the No. 7-ranked Panthers defense.
