Nix could etch his name in Broncos lore, joining Tebow as a homegrown playoff winner. Can he conquer the Bills and make history?

Sean Payton's Denver Broncos are feeling great after winning the AFC West, finishing with a 14-3 record and grabbing the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the AFC.

In the Divisional Round, the Broncos face the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen, the same team that knocked them out of the postseason a year ago.

Allen has been playing well and had his way with the Broncos last postseason, so there are some worries.

But, Broncos QB Bo Nix has also had a terrific sophomore campaign.

And, if the Broncos win, Nix will become just the second QB in Broncos franchise history to win a playoff game after being drafted by the franchise.

What about Broncos legend John Elway? Well, Elway was selected at No. 1 overall in the 1983 NF Draft by the Baltimore Colts, even though he said he wouldn't play for the Colts if he was selected.

So, in May 1983, the Broncos acquired the rights to Elway in a trade with the Colts, and the rest is history for the Hall of Fame QB.

Elway had even said the following at that time: "If it was football with the Colts or baseball with the Yankees, I would have picked baseball."

So, it is Tim Tebow who led the Broncos to a 29-23 Wild Card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012.

On the first play of overtime, Tebow connected with Demaryius Thomas on the game-winning score to send Mile High into a wild frenzy.

The Broncos excitement didn't last long as Tom Brady and the New England Patriots ran them over in the following week with a 45-10 final, but it was still a memorable moment for Broncos fans.

But, this time, it is Bo Nix and the Broncos who are surging, although facing the Bills and Josh Allen is not the easiest matchup.

The other AFC Divisional Round game is between the Houston Texans and New England Patriots on Sunday with the winners playing for a chance to go to the Super Bowl.

Nix might still be feeling a bit upset about last year's playoff exit, but he has taken a step forward this season and is sure hoping the Broncos can advance to the AFC title game, which would be in Denver regardless of the result of the other game.
