The Broncos are working out former Browns wide receiver Jamari Thrash after Pat Bryant suffered an ankle injury that is expected to sideline him for several weeks.
The Denver Broncos are taking a look at a potential addition to their wide receiver room after losing Pat Bryant to an ankle injury.
Denver is working out former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jamari Thrash on Tuesday, Pro Football Talk reports, citing NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
The workout comes two days after Bryant suffered a sprained ankle during the Broncos' 24-14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Bryant is expected to miss a few weeks with the injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The second-year receiver was injured after making a 30-yard reception in the third quarter and had to be carted off the field.
Denver received encouraging news when testing revealed a sprain rather than a more serious injury. Still, Bryant's expected absence comes as the Broncos evaluate their options at wide receiver ahead of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Cleveland selected Thrash in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
He appeared in 18 games over two seasons with the Browns, catching 13 passes for 129 yards.
Thrash played nine games last season and caught 10 of his 15 targets for 107 yards. Cleveland re-signed him as an exclusive-rights free agent during the offseason, then waived him with an injury designation in August.
He cleared waivers and reverted to injured reserve before the Browns waived him from IR in September.
The Broncos already have Courtland Sutton, Jaylen Waddle, Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims Jr. among their options at wide receiver, but Bryant had established himself as part of Denver's rotation before the injury.
His absence comes as the Broncos prepare for another AFC West matchup against the Chargers.
Denver has already had to adjust to injuries elsewhere on the roster. The Broncos received encouraging news on Pat Surtain II after the All-Pro cornerback suffered a non-contact ankle injury against San Francisco. At the same time, Riley Moss also avoided a long-term injury after injuring his ribs.
Now the Broncos are exploring whether Thrash could provide additional depth while Bryant recovers.
A workout does not guarantee Denver will sign Thrash, but the timing gives the Broncos a chance to evaluate another receiver before returning to the field against the Chargers.
