The Denver Broncos made roster moves involving Justin Turner and Nick Gargiulo, with both players now on the bubble.
The Denver Broncos made a pair of roster moves over the weekend that put two players on the bubble when it comes to making the roster out of training camp, according to reports from both Pro Football Talk and the Denver Post.
The two players involved are linebacker Jordan Turner, who has been placed on the non-football injury list, and guard Nick Garguilo, who pas placed on the physically unable to perfrom (PUP) list. Both players will still count against the 90-man roster and can be activated at any time in training camp, according to Josh Alper of PFT.
Turner signed with the Broncos last year after going undrafted, and he appeared in seven regular season games and two playoff contests while seeing most of his action on special teams, Alper added. He had eight tackles during those game.
The linebacker was expected to compete for a depth spot behind Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad, according to Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post. His snap count broke down to 64 percent of the Broncos’ special team snaps, and he had 23 snaps on defense as well.
The nature and extent of his injury was not revealed when the Broncos made these moves yesterday, but any significant amount of missed time would endanger his roster status, Gabriel added.
The move involving Gargiulo was expected, the writer noted. He was a seventh-round pick back in 2024, but Garguilo suffered what Gabriel characterized as a “gruesome” knee injury during a preseason game last year against the Arizona Cardinals.
He missed the entire 2024 season and was limited during Denver’s offseason program, although he was around the team and present at multiple practices that were open to reporters, according to Gabriel.
Garguilo spent his rookie season in 2024 on the practice squad and was elevated to active status for three regular season games, along with Denver’s division round playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. the has yet to see any action in regular season or postseason games.
The guard was originally considered a promising developmental player, but given the strength of the offensive line roster spots are expected to be at a premium. Gabriel also noted that Gargiulo’s progress will be interesting to track once he gets healthy.
The rookies officially reported to camp on Wendesday, with the veterans due to return on Tuesday, with ramp-up practices scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
