The Denver Broncos have a new quarterbacks coach, and Logan Kilgore will be a key figure in training camp.

The Denver Broncos quarterback situation this season is more tenuous than it was last year, and we all know most of the storylines. We haven’t seen quarterback Bo Nix do much on the field yet, and his health remains very much in question.

Add in the fact that Nix was completely snubbed in the latest annual ranking of quarterbacks from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Not only was Nix not mentioned in the top ten, he was also left out of the honorable mentions list that included the likes of Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders along with five other QBs.

Nix did get votes, but that means he’s basically considered a bottom-half quarterback around the league, and we all knew the respect was lacking even before the injury.

The man charged with fixing all this is new quarterbacks coach Logan Kilgore, who really hasn’t been talked about all that much to date. Most of the coaching attention has gone to new offensive coordinator Davis Webb, who is expected to wrestle with coach Sean Payton to take over the play calling chores.

But Kilgore will be the man who directly works with Nix most of the time, and Nix commented about him in a piece written by Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post.

“I know that he is going to do really well with this opportunity,” Nix said in June. “He’s going to work at it really well and nothing will go unturned. He will have a different perspective that Davis doesn’t have and that’s when collaboration is really good. I’m excited.

“He’s a great dude, and I think he enjoys being around us as people more than just players and that’s when you know you have a good football coach.”

Nix is close to a finished product at this point, although there will be obvious questions about his mobility and how it will affect the Broncos offense going into training camp.

But Kilgore will also be working with both Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger, and there are questions about whether this will be an actual positional battle or an effort to check in and see where both quarterbacks are going into the season. Stidham was the subject of trade rumors after the season, and his salary of $8 million sticks out given his backup status.

Kilgore has definitely been there when it comes to life at the bottom of the QB pecking order. He played the position in the CFL after college, and he’s only been a coach for five years. Players and coaches alike describe him as smart, hard-working and relatable, according to Gabriel, but he’ll have a lot on his plate this season.
