The Denver Broncos are looking to build upon their incredible 2025 season and are having a solid training camp with the preseason starting next week.
It’s been a great training camp for the Denver Broncos, both offensively and defensively, as the team tries to get back to the American Football Conference Championship and to the Super Bowl after a fantastic 2025 season.
It was an unfortunate and underwhelming finish to what was otherwise a dominant season for the Broncos, headlined by a defense that nearly broke the all-time single season sack record. The offense was stagnant at times but turned it on in the fourth quarter most games, allowing for some exciting finishes.
Had quarterback Bo Nix stayed healthy for the AFC Championship game, the outcome of that game may have been completely different. According to NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, who reported on early training camp takeaways for all 32 teams, Nix has looked healthy and on the same page as new play-caller and offensive coordinator Davis Webb.
Even better, tight end Evan Engram is enjoying the new OC.
“Bo Nix is healthy and looking good with OC Davis Webb,” Patra wrote Thursday. “The new play-caller seems to be good for tight end Evan Engram as well.”
Engram was supposed to be a fixture in the Broncos offense and take on the “Joker” role for head coach Sean Payton, but the pairing just hasn’t worked out. He is in the final year of his two-year, $23 million contract and is coming off a 50-reception, 461-yard season.
In other news regarding the offense, Patra said that the QB2 battle between Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger is real. Had Stidham come through for the Broncos during the postseason, this probably isn’t a note, but Ehlinger is having a strong camp, and Denver doesn’t have any reason to be married to Stidham.
Just like during the last few seasons, the defense has stolen the show during camp, specifically cornerback Riley Moss.
“Riley Moss has been the talk of Broncos camp, making some jaw-dropping plays,” wrote Patra. “The athletic corner has continued to keep 2025 first-rounder Jahdae Barron at bay. A booming contract year could lead to a massive payday for Moss.
“Barron continues to play a nickel role while rotating on the outside and handling some LB duties in dime. It's still unclear what job he'll have if Moss continues to thrive.”
Moss was picked on in coverage last season, so this is a great sign for the 2026 Broncos. Since Barron is waiting in the wings and Denver thinks highly of the former first-round pick, Moss likely gets paid by a different team.
The team will deal with that when the time is right, but for now, the focus is on finishing camp healthy and taking care of business during the season.
Denver opens the preseason on the road against the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 14 at 5 p.m. MDT.
