Denver Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton knows his quarterback is ready to go, and he chose a unique animal comp.

The Denver Broncos have had to answer all kinds of questions this week about whether quarterback Bo Nix is ready to go, and we’ve heard all the right answers. This isn’t all that surprising given that the Broncos are a professional, media-savvy group that knows the drill when it comes to this sort of thing.

But Courtland Sutton did his teammates one better and then some in his comments about whether Nix is ready. He compared Nix to a “caged mountain lion,” as apparently his trip to the Colorado Zoo had a bigger impact than expected.

“He’s like a mountain lion that’s in the zoo that’s just like pacing. I saw a mountain lion at the Colorado Zoo, he was just pacing back and forth,” Sutton said in a piece written by Sam Jane of the Denver Post. “And I was like, ‘Y’all don’t want that boy to get out. It’s not going to be good.’ But that’s what Bo reminds me of, mentally you can tell he’s just like ‘I’m ready to go do this.”

Nix took the bait and ran with it, making it obvious that he liked the comparison.

“Out here there’s different animals you can encounter and I hear that it’s mountain lions and bears you don’t want to come across. I guess that’s a good comparison, one that I’ll take,” Nix said. “I feel like I’m pacing, I’ve been in this practice schedule for a long time and it’s exciting to get out there and go play another team.”

Nix faces a big challenge that’s essentially an extension of the one he faced last year. It took all the Broncos had for Denver to finally beat the Kansas City Chiefs at home, and now they get to go for another win on the road with quarterback Patrick Mahomes present and accounted for.

“The thing about mountain lions is that usually when you notice them, it’s because they noticed you a long time ago,” Nix said.

Nix is one of the Broncos’ best players when it comes to blocking out noise and distractions. He seems utterly unaware that most of the NFL world is talking about his health and limitation. We know it’s an act, but it’s also a good one.

The Broncos quarterback has been under intense scrutiny all year, and it’s understandable that he’s pacing and chomping at the bit. This game has been coming a long time, and Nix wants to show the  world that he’s ready to be elite and conquer his issues with inconsistency.
