The Denver Broncos are slowly signing their draft picks, and they'll make an appearance at rookie camp this weekend.
The Denver Broncos announced the signing of multiple draft picks this week as they get ready for rookie minicamp this weekend, with the moves reported by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
Fifth-round tight end Justin Joly and seventh-round safety Miles Scott are the latest signees, and they join seventh-rounders Dallen Bentley and Red Murdock, with the tight end and linebacker, respectively, being the earlier additions. That leaves the Broncos with three more picks to get under contract, and the pace of the signings being typical for this time of year.
Joly is the marquee player here. The Broncos looked into moving up to get a higher-rated draft pick, according to multiple reports, but they ended picking Joly, who had 49 catches last season and had 92 catches in two seasons at North Carolina State. He spent two years at Connecticut before transferring in 2024.
Scott hasn’t been mentioned much, but he was a three-year starter in the Big Ten for Illinois. He had 64 tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack, three interceptions and four fumble recoveries last year, according to Williams. He’ll likely be a depth piece as the Broncos have both quality and depth at the back end of their secondary as the Broncos focused on retaining their core players during the offseason.
Most of these players face an uphill climb to make the roster after Denver’s uneventful draft. The Broncos went into the draft without a first-round pick after trading for receiver Jaylen Waddle, and a series of trades shuffled Denver back into the third round before they made a selection.
Joly’s weight when he reports will be interesting to watch. He’s played at both 260 and 240 pounds, but he’ll also be expected to hold up his end as a blocker, so his weight could provide a little more detail about his expected role.
Murdock will also be interesting to watch. He’s the seventh-rounder who was dubbed Mr. Irrelevant for being the final pick in the draft, but he was a star for the Buffalo Bills, and Murdock also turned down multiple offers from larger schools to stay with his teammates at Buffalo.
The Broncos have also added a pair of quarterbacks to throw in many camp, with both Nathan Peterman and E.J. Warner, son of Kurt, getting tryouts as part of minicamp. It won’t be an eventful minicamp, but there will be developments to help set the stage for OTAs.
