Denver secures veteran depth and Super Bowl experience, bolstering Vance Joseph’s secondary with a hard-hitting playmaker as roster cuts loom ahead of the regular season opener.

The Denver Broncos will play their second game of the preseason on Friday night against the Green Bay Packers.

However, even with roster decisions coming up at some point over the next few weeks, the Broncos are making additions.

On Thursday, a big one came in, with former Buffalo Bills starting safety Taylor Rapp signing with Denver, according to a report from CBS Sports' NFL insider Matt Zenitz.

Rapp began his career with the Los Angeles Rams after they selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Rapp played college football with the Washington Huskies, and he has become a popular name during his time in the league.

Rapp was also part of the Rams team that won the Super Bowl before he joined the Bills for the 2023 season. He played 30 games combined in 2023 and 2024, but he played just six games last season due to a season-ending knee injury.

Last season, Taylor Rapp had 26 total tackles and 17 solo tackles during his six starts before being ruled out for the season, so he still can produce at a high level, although the injuries were a concern.

The Broncos have Talanoa Hufanga as the starting safety along with Brandon Jones, and that won't likely change with Rapp coming to town.

However, the former Rams and Bills safety does provide some solid insurance for the team this season.

The other safeties listed on the Denver depth chart, at least right now, include JL Skinner, Tycen Anderson, Parker Robertson, Devon Key and Miles Scott, and some moves could be made by the time the rosters are finalized prior to the opening week.

NFL analyst James Palmer also shared why he is on board with the Rapp signing, and he is the type of player who fits what Vance Joseph is trying to do with the defense in Denver.

PJ Locke had manned the backup position for quite some time in Denver, but he signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys in free agency, and adding a safety always seemed like an obvious need to give some depth.

It remains to be seen when Rapp will make his debut, although the Broncos have just one more preseason game after playing the Packers on Friday.

Denver begins the regular season against the Kansas City Chiefs, and they face Rapp's former team, the Los Angeles Rams, in Week 3 with a game against his other former team, the Bills, in Denver on Christmas Day.
