The broadcast attracted 11% more viewers than CBS's comparable Week 8 window last season, further demonstrating the national appeal of the AFC West rivalry.

It was also the second-most-watched NFL game of the 2026 season, trailing only the Chiefs' Week 4 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, which averaged 28.449 million viewers.

Kansas City has now participated in the two most-watched NFL broadcasts of the season, both on CBS.

Sunday's game provided plenty of late drama.

The Broncos trailed 24-13 entering the fourth quarter before quarterback Bo Nix engineered another remarkable comeback.

Nix threw a touchdown pass to Nate Adkins and connected with Jaylen Waddle for a two-point conversion to bring Denver within three points.

After Kansas City kicker Harrison Butker missed a 54-yard field goal, Nix found rookie running back Jonah Coleman for a 51-yard gain.

Coleman scored on a 5-yard run to give Denver a 28-24 lead with 1:56 remaining.

The Chiefs nearly answered, driving inside Denver's 5-yard line before the Broncos' defense delivered a game-saving goal-line stand.

The victory extended Denver's winning streak to four games and improved its record to 6-2, moving the Broncos ahead of Kansas City in the AFC West standings.

It also produced another milestone for Nix, who established an NFL record with his 15th career game-winning drive through his first three seasons.

The record audience was part of a strong season for CBS, whose national Sunday late-afternoon NFL window is averaging 25.306 million viewers.

CBS's overall NFL coverage is averaging 19.561 million viewers, a 5% increase from the same point last season.

For the Broncos, Sunday's victory delivered more than first place in the division.

It also showcased their growing national appeal to a record-setting television audience.
