Jeremy Fowler cites a "limited ceiling" and lingering injury concerns as Denver’s rookie faces a crossroads, forcing Sean Payton to weigh the franchise's long-term quarterback commitment.
The Denver Broncos are 4-2 going into Week 7, but the wins have come with plenty of question marks this season.
A big one is the play of Bo Nix, who has taken a step back early on, and some have even wondered if there is a lingering issue after he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the postseason run.
The Broncos just beat the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, although their power ranking appearance has also left many wondering how good this team really is.
As far as Nix is concerned, there could be some questions clouding his future, especially if he continues to struggle. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrote about Nix in his latest intel.
The question asked to Dan Graziano and Fowler was this: What is the most intriguing quarterback contract situation for the offseason?
Fowler said Nix has a "limited ceiling" and he then said this: "He is a quality starter but is not poised to enter the upper echelon. Confidence appears to be an issue this season, raising questions about what this player-team marriage looks like long term."
Now, there are plenty of issues in Denver apart from Nix. Davis Webb stepped in as the offensive play-caller, and he didn't do well at all, forcing head coach Sean Payton to take over the duties even before the halfway mark of the season.
Graziano also spoke briefly about Nix, saying there have been issues with his ability to use his legs this season, which might circle back to the ankle issue he suffered during the playoff run last postseason.
At any rate, the limited ceiling might be cause for concern for Denver, especially with a loaded QB class coming in the 2027 NFL Draft.
The Broncos can sign Nix to an extension in the spring of 2027 if they want to, but with the way QB deals have gone, it would cost them a pretty penny to keep Nix in town for years to come.
Going into Week 7, Nix has thrown for 1,049 yards with 6 touchdowns and he has just a 79.4 QB rating.
He has been under a 60 completion percentage in three or six games this season, and in Week 1, he was at 60.7 completion percentage in the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
There are certainly lots of questions surrounding the Broncos, and if Nix doesn't get back to where he was the past two seasons, maybe Payton and company think of making a change this offseason.
Right now, however, it is Bo Nix's show to run in the Mile High City.
