Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos moved to 5-2 on the season after the incredible 33-32 comeback victory against the New York Giants on Sunday.
The Broncos scored all 33 points in the final quarter, making a field goal late in the game to get the incredible win.
After the game, Payton was talking about Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. He mentioned he had spoke to Giants owner John Mara about the fact he hoped the Giants would not go with Dart until after their matchup. This was a perceived shot at his former Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson.
On Tuesday, Wilson made a response on social media, calling out his coach for the infamous 'Bounty-Gate' scandal in New Orleans.
"Classless... but not surprised....," Wilson posted on X. "Didn't realize you're still bounty hunting 15+ years later through the media."
Wilson had an outstanding career as the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, which included a Super Bowl XLVIII victory against the Broncos.
In March of 2022, he was traded to the Broncos for a plethora of picks as well as multiple players. It was a move the team made in hopes of being able to go at the Chiefs in the AFC West.
It didn't work out, and the Broncos eventually cut Wilson at the start of the 2024 calendar year. They ate an $85 million dead money penalty, and it set the organization back a couple years.
The trade for Wilson didn't work out for either side, and both the quarterback and coach at times voiced their frustration about working with the other one.
Both of these guys are Super Bowl winners, and both have a legitimate claim of being in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the future.
In the NFL, teams are going to make moves they believe can help their team get closer to achieving the ultimate goal of winner a Super Bowl. Sometimes the move works in a big way, but the majority of the time, things don't go well.
This was one that didn't work out, and both of these guys have made it clear that they aren't a huge fan of the other.
Luckily for the Broncos, they appear to have hit in a big way in the NFL Draft, as second-year quarterback Bo Nix appears to be a franchise level quarterback. They are currently 5-2 on the season, and in first place in the AFC West by one game over the Los Angeles Chargers and the Chiefs.
