An overtime thriller on Sunday saw the Denver Broncos edge out the Washington Commanders 27-26, pushing their win total to 10 on the year. Though it may not have been the most convincing win, the Broncos have found themselves with nine consecutive wins.
For this, Denver is yet again moving up in the latest power rankings from Bleacher Report. Now at the No. 2 spot, sitting only behind the New England Patriots, the Broncos yet again reaffirm their Super Bowl-contender status.
“Denver looked sluggish coming out of its bye and just narrowly escaped a Commanders team that hasn't won since Week 5. It was just the latest example of the Broncos winning ugly, but they are winning,” the B/R NFL Staff wrote about Denver.
“It still feels like Bo Nix and the Broncos offense are only efficient for a few drives each game, but with a top-five defense, that's been enough. There's still time to find an offensive rhythm ahead of the postseason, and this is already a team no one will want to face in Denver in January.”
Sunday’s win wasn’t pretty, but that's been the story in Denver this season. As fans are learning, it doesn’t always have to be pretty. What makes the Broncos so convincing as a true AFC contender is their unrivaled ability to win games on any given night.
Even on a night where they aren’t playing to their best ability, the Broncos will still find a way to escape with a win. At the end of the day, a team’s ability to lead when the clock expires is the most important thing in football, and there’s no doubt that the Broncos are some of the best at doing just that.
There’s still plenty of time for the offense to finally catch a groove in the final weeks before the postseason begins. If Denver is able to build that offensive momentum heading into January, it’s hard to imagine them losing to any team in the league.
With wins against the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, and Dallas Cowboys, the Broncos have some playoff-level wins already under their belt this season. It would be surprising to see any team come to Denver in the playoffs and beat the undefeated-at-home Broncos. The rest of the season should serve simply as an opportunity to find that last missing piece.
