Broncos cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian has nine career sacks and seven interceptions, putting the former undrafted free agent in rare company.
The Denver Broncos have one of the NFL's most unusual defensive playmakers in cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian.
And the numbers help explain why.
McMillian has recorded nine sacks and seven interceptions during his career, an uncommon combination for a player who entered the league as an undrafted free agent.
According to Zac Stevens, McMillian is one of only three undrafted cornerbacks in NFL history to record at least nine sacks and seven interceptions.
The achievement is particularly impressive considering McMillian is only 26 and still in his fifth NFL season.
The Broncos' official career statistics confirm that McMillian has reached both marks, along with 211 tackles, 28 passes defended and five forced fumbles through Denver's first six games this season.
His production reflects an ability to contribute in several ways.
While most cornerbacks are primarily responsible for pass coverage, McMillian has also become a weapon when defensive coordinator Vance Joseph sends additional pressure toward opposing quarterbacks.
That versatility has helped him carve out a significant role in Denver's defense.
McMillian joined the Broncos in 2022 after going undrafted out of East Carolina.
He appeared in just one game as a rookie before earning more opportunities in 2023, when he recorded two sacks and two interceptions.
He returned an interception for a touchdown in 2024, finishing that season with 81 tackles, two interceptions and a sack.
McMillian followed with four sacks and two interceptions in 2025, demonstrating that his ability to create disruptive plays was no fluke.
That production has continued this season.
The cornerback has already recorded two sacks and an interception through six games, including a sack in each of Denver's recent victories over the Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks.
His interception against Seattle proved especially important.
McMillian picked off quarterback Sam Darnold in overtime, giving Denver the possession that led to Wil Lutz's game-winning field goal in a 17-14 victory.
Joseph subsequently explained how the Broncos disguised their coverage to create the opportunity.
McMillian's contributions have also become increasingly valuable with injuries affecting Denver's secondary.
Star cornerback Pat Surtain II has been dealing with an ankle injury, forcing other defensive backs to assume greater responsibilities.
Meanwhile, McMillian's continued development has helped make him a potential candidate for a new contract.
His name was recently mentioned among several defensive backs who could be considered for extensions during Denver's upcoming Week 10 bye.
For now, McMillian will look to add to his unusual career totals when the Broncos visit the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Few undrafted cornerbacks have combined the ability to pressure quarterbacks and intercept passes as effectively as McMillian.
And at 26, he could have plenty of opportunities to add to both totals.
