The Denver Broncos squeezed out another late-game win in Week 9 against the Houston Texans by a score of 18-15. It was yet another game where the offense showed inconsistencies but ultimately did what it had to do to walk away with the victory.
As the quarterback, Bo Nix is at the forefront of the offense's questions, and that was no different in Week 9. It wasn’t a tremendous game for Nix; in fact, it was one of his poorest performances all season.
Nix finished the game with 173 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He added 36 yards from the ground on three rushes as well. Those numbers alone aren’t horrible, but they get concerning when you look at his efficiency. Nix completed just 18 of 37 passes, falling under 50% completion percentage for the first time in 2025.
Still, the completion percentage doesn’t tell the whole story. Receivers dropped some passes during the game, but the statistic is still a concerning one for Broncos fans. For his performance in Week 9 and doing everything needed to get the win, Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski gave Nix a ‘B’ grade for his outing against Houston.
“Nix might as well have been talking about himself. The offense goes through him. Those ups and downs, particularly the former late in games, are a direct result of the quarterback's play,” Sobleski wrote in a recent article. “With 50 seconds remaining against the NFL's top-ranked defense, Nix completed his only pass and ran for 34 yards.”
Though there have been far too many moments where the Broncos have needed to win the game on the last drive or two this season, you have to be impressed with the way the second-year quarterback has handled it. No matter what type of game he is having beforehand, when it matters the most, Nix gets done what he needs to.
"We have a lot of character. We have a lot of competitive guys. We don't ever feel like we're out. We were down the majority of the game today, but we kept clawing and fighting,” Nix said after the game. “We just did enough."
Now, it's time for Nix and the offense to perform at the level they are clearly capable of on every possession, every drive, during every quarter.
