Do you agree with this take about the Cleveland Browns and Shedeur Sanders?
NFL analyst Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report believes the Cleveland Browns' best-case scenario in 2026 on offense involves Shedeur Sanders.
Knox wants to see Sanders win the QB 1 job over Deshaun Watson and run with it.
Sanders finished his rookie season with 1,400 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 169 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. He went 3-4 as a starter.
Meanwhile, Watson didn't play last season. He was recovering from the Achilles tear he suffered during the 2024 season.
According to NFL Network insider Cameron Wolfe, the Browns' QB 1 battle is "wide open" between Sanders and Watson. Wolfe reports that Sanders played very well at OTAs.
“It’s actually pretty wide open," Wolfe said. "I know there were a lot of early conversations about this is Deshaun Watson’s job to lose, but from what I understand, Shedeur Sanders has had a really strong last few weeks of OTAs. I’ve talked to people with the Browns who have said that Shedeur’s really impressed them, he is progressing really well.
“A little bit deeper into that, what does that mean? The biggest thing is they’ve seen him grow as he progresses down the field as a quarterback. Sometimes he holds onto the ball too long. Talking to people there who really have an impact on this decision, they have seen him grow in his processing. And I also have heard there’s something about him—aura is a good word is what I was told there. So, look, do not count out Shedeur Sanders in this race.”
The Browns will use training camp and preseason action to determine who will start Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It will be fascinating to see who wins the job between Watson and Sanders.
"Y'all look at it as like a competition. That's not really nothing I'm focused on," Sanders said. "I'm focused on developing as a player, doing everything, getting as comfortable as I can in the offense and the scheme and playing with that confidence I had."
The Browns went 5-12 last season. They have been looking for a franchise QB for so long.
Only time will tell if Sanders is that guy.
