The Cleveland Browns are hosting a former second-round pick on a visit on Wednesday.
The Cleveland Browns had veteran pass rusher Tyus Bowser work out with the team on Wednesday. The Baltimore Ravens selected Bowser in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but he hasn't played since the 2024 season.
In the 2024 season, Bowser played in nine games for the Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins, finishing with 11 total tackles.
The best season of his career came in the 2021 season for the Baltimore Ravens, as he had 59 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and four pass deflections.
The Browns could use some more depth off the edge for new defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg. New head coach Todd Monken hired Rutenberg to replace Jim Schwartz, who left the organization after being passed over for the head coach position.
Cleveland has made a ton of changes this offseason, including trading superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.
Garrett was coming off a historic season, as he set the sack record with 23 sacks. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year also finished with 60 total tackles, 33 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and a pass deflection.
Replacing Garrett is a difficult task, but Verse is a great young pass rusher who can be a key piece for the Browns' defense.
In the 2025 season, Verse had 58 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a pass deflection. He has been named a Pro Bowler in each of his first two seasons.
Cleveland has some talented young pieces on defense with Verse, Defensive Rookie of the Year Carson Schwesinger, and 2025 fifth-overall pick Mason Graham. They have also kept some quality veterans around, with Denzel Ward and Grant Delpit inking extensions with the team.
The Browns may no longer have the league's best defensive player, but they should still be a formidable unit in the 2026 season. If Bowser had a good workout, he could be solid depth for Cleveland's new defense under Rutenberg.
