Right now, the Cleveland Browns do not know for sure who will be playing quarterback for them next season.
At the current point in time, Shedeur Sanders is the favorite, as he ended 2025 as the starter, but that could change this offseason, and new head coach Todd Monken made that fairly clear when he declined to commit to Sanders for 2026.
During a recent sit-down with Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was asked whether or not Sanders is "the guy," and Garrett provided an honest answer on the young signal-caller.
"That's who we're looking at as a guy," Garrett said. "We're going to give him a shot to prove that he's the guy."
Sanders made eight appearances and seven starts during his rookie campaign, throwing for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 56.6 percent of his passes and posting a 68.1 passer rating.
"We're not going to give anyone that title until they go out there and earn it," Garrett added. "He was last person to be on the field, and you saw some flashes. So, we're going to give him an opportunity to show what he can really do."

Sanders began the 2025 campaign as the third-string quarterback behind Joe Flacco and Gabriel, but was promoted to the primary backup role following the Browns' decision to trade Flacco early in the season.
The 24-year-old then relieved a concussed Gabriel in Week 11 before assuming the role of full-time starter the rest of the year.
Sanders was named a Pro Bowl alternate, but that was certainly due more to his name rather than his actual performance.
Nevertheless, with the Browns owning the sixth and 24th picks of the NFL Draft and there not being any clear-cut first-round quarterbacks other than Fernando Mendoza this spring, they may have no choice but to roll with Sanders next fall.
It's possible that Cleveland pursues another signal-caller in free agency or on the trade market, but the Browns do not have a very friendly financial situation, which complicates things there.
